The Office of Admissions requires official, sealed transcripts for various applications and services.
You must provide your transcript(s) for the following applications and services:
- Pre-legal Evaluation Request: An optional service provided by the Office of Admissions for applicants who want to confirm they have met the pre-legal educational requirements needed to begin the study of law. If you do not have an undergraduate degree, you can submit an evaluation request through your Applicant Portal. Your official sealed undergraduate transcripts must be mailed to the Office of Admissions at 845 S. Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, CA 90017.
- Law Study Evaluation Request: An optional service provided by the Office of Admissions for applicants who have completed at least one year of law study and wish to determine if they are exempt from the First-Year Law Students’ Examination or eligible to take the California Bar Examination. Applicants who are transferring law schools and want to ensure they will meet the legal education requirements by the end of their law study are encouraged to request a law study evaluation. Your official sealed law school transcripts must be mailed to the Office of Admissions at 845 S. Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, CA 90017.
- Foreign Law Study Evaluation: Foreign-educated general applicants must have their foreign transcripts sent to an approved credential evaluation agency in order for the agency to complete the Foreign Law Study Evaluation Summary form.
- Law Office Study Program: (LOS): Those who wish to participate in LOS must submit pre-legal transcripts to ensure they meet the pre-legal educational requirements needed to begin the study of law. Official sealed transcripts, CLEP scores, or a credential evaluation report from an approved agency within 30 days of beginning the study of law are accepted. Transcripts must also be submitted for any previously completed law study.
- First-Year Law Students’ Examination: (FYLSX): Approximately 8 weeks prior to the FYLSX, the Office of Admissions will send your law school(s) an examination certification form requesting confirmation that you have completed one year of law study, with an official transcript attached.
- California Bar Examination (CBX): Approximately 8 weeks prior to the CBX, the Office of Admissions will send your law school(s) an examination certification form requesting verification that you have completed all JD degree requirements, with an official transcript attached. However, if your JD degree has not yet been posted or your law school requires students to request their transcript, you will only be conditionally cleared to sit for one CBX administration. Thereafter, you will be required to order and provide your official transcript to sit for another CBX and complete your eligibility file.
- Foreign-educated general applicants with a first degree in law: You must request that your U.S. law school send the Office of Admissions an official sealed transcript indicating completion of an additional year of law study pursuant to the guidelines.
Transcripts are not required for U.S. or foreign attorney applicants.
Note: Electronic transcripts are not accepted under any circumstance.
