Reinstating your license after administrative suspension

Learn how to reinstate your license after an administrative suspension.

If your license has been administratively suspended for failing to comply with Attorney Annual Renewal requirements, follow the steps below to resolve each suspension and restore your license status.

Note: Following the June 30 Attorney Annual Renewal deadline, the State Bar will update the records of attorneys who have not complied with their requirements. This includes assessing reinstatement fees for all noncompliant attorneys. Any payments or reporting submitted after June 30 will be considered late.

Attorneys not compliant by June 30 will have their license status changed to Not Eligible by July 9, 2026, retroactive to July 1, 2026.

During this period, online payment through My State Bar Profile will be temporarily unavailable. Payment services are expected to resume by July 10. Once available, attorneys will be able to log in to pay all outstanding fees, including any applicable reinstatement fees, and then submit applicable reinstatement request forms.

Step 1: Check your license status

Visit your State Bar public profile to view your current administrative suspension(s). You may have more than one suspension to resolve.

The Attorney Annual Renewal opened February 1 with a final deadline of June 30. Licensees are responsible for completing all requirements by the final June 30 deadline to avoid suspension.

Step 2: Resolve each administrative suspension

Address each administrative suspension that applies to you:

Nonpayment of annual license fees

To reinstate, pay all outstanding annual license fees through My State Bar Profile. No additional form submission is required. Reinstatement will be effective as of the date full payment is received.

Payment method
  • Credit card (recommended): Use a credit card to ensure your payment is processed immediately with no delay to your reinstatement.

  • ACH/electronic check: ACH payments are subject to a 30-day hold while funds clear with your financial institution. Your reinstatement will not be processed until payment is confirmed. Once payment is confirmed, reinstatement will be backdated to the date the original payment was submitted. For urgent reinstatements, pay by credit card instead.

  • Partial payments: Partial payments are accepted, but your license will not be reinstated from suspension of nonpayment until all outstanding fees, penalties, and/or costs are paid in full.
