Revocation Segment

In this segment, firms can report the closure of their legal practice and request termination of their registration.

Reporting requirements will vary depending on whether you are submitting a new application or renewing your registration with the State Bar. Please identify your application type and review the instructions below that correspond to your selection.

Annual Renewal

Answer the question, "Are you reporting the closure of your LC?"
  • Selecting “Yes,” means the firm stopped practicing law BEFORE the beginning of the CURRENT renewal cycle. The application will be rerouted to a revocation/closure application.
    • Click “Continue” to provide the closure date and document, click the declaration button, and “Continue” once more.
  • Selecting “No,” means the firm is still practicing law or a closure occurred on or AFTER the start of the CURRENT renewal cycle.
    • A closure occurs on or after the start of the current renewal cycle, firms are required to complete renewal application.
    • Once a renewal application is approved, a revocation can be submitted to report a closure that occurs after the start of a renewal cycle.

⇒ Please Note: There is a separate Revocation guide available for firms reporting a revocation after completing a renewal.

New Registration Application

  •  The Revocation segment does not apply to new registration applications.

  • If a newly registered LC needs to report a closure, the LC would log into the Agency Billing account, locate the recently submitted new application, and select the “Revoke” button. This button is available only for applications with a record status of “Approved.”
