Business Relationship Segment
In this segment, the LC can report on any business relationships with other LCs and/or LLPs.
Reporting requirements will vary depending on whether you are submitting a new application or renewing your registration with the State Bar. Please identify your application type and review the instructions below that correspond to your selection.
Law Corporation and LLP relationships must be reported on separate pages, with each business type entered in its own section of the application.
Annual Renewal
Is the LC attempting to renew its registration, and is this the first time it has submitted the application online?
If this is the LC's first year submitting an online renewal application through Agency Billing, please follow the instructions for the New Registration Application below.
Is the LC attempting to renew its registration and has it already submitted the application online in a prior renewal cycle?
If yes, the information submitted in the previous renewal cycle is already available in the online application. Please follow the steps below to complete the process:

Review the list of business relationships within the tables to confirm the information is correct.
- Add, edit, delete the information on record as needed. The records can be updated:
- Manually:
- By selecting the “Edit” button in the corresponding firm row
- By selecting “Add Law Corp/LLP Manually,” complete the pop-up screen, and click “Save.”
- Excel Spreadsheet Entry:
- By downloading, editing, and re-uploading the excel document on record.
- Manually:
2. Once the information on record is up to date, click “Continue” at the bottom of the page.
New Registration Application
1. Disclose any business relationships that the firm has with another LCs and LLPs with the appropriate page.
⇒Please Note: If there are no relationships to report, for LC and/or LLP, click “Continue” at the bottom of each page.
- LC Page – Disclose any business relationships with other Law Corporations by providing:
- What is the Registration Number? The Law Corporation’s State Bar of California–issued the Law Corporation a registration number after successfully completing a registration application. Law Corporations cannot be reported as a business relationship in an application if they are not registered with the State Bar of California.
- Law Corporation Name – The name of the Law Corporation the entity is in partnership with.
- Law Corporation Type – California or Non-California Corporation.
- The number of attorneys that the firm has a relationship with.
- The question “How many attorneys do we have a relationship with?” refers to the total number of attorneys employed by the partner organization with whom the firm has an active working relationship.
- Example: If the firm is currently working with 13 attorneys from the partner organization, report 13.
- LLP Page - Disclose any business relationships that the firm has with LLPs by providing;
- LLP Type – California or Non-California LLP.

LLPs cannot be reported as a business relationship in an application if they are not registered with the State Bar of California.

- The LLP’s Name - The name of the LLP the entity is in partnership with.
- The number of attorneys that the firm has a relationship with.
- The question “How many attorneys do we have a relationship with?” refers to the total number of attorneys employed by the partner organization with whom the firm has an active working relationship.
- Example: If the firm is currently working with 13 attorneys from the partner organization, report 13.
Business relationships can be reported one of two ways:
- Manual Entry
If the firm would like to report relationships manually, click "Add Law Corporation/Limited Liability Partnership Manually" and fill out the pop-up screen.
- Click “Save” once the form is complete.
- Repeat as needed to report all business relationships.
- Upload an Excel Spreadsheet:
If the firm would like to report relationships by uploading an excel, first click "Download sample data grid" and open the downloaded file in Excel.

- If using the spreadsheet, do not alter its format. Any changes to the layout or structure—including modifying column names, adding or removing columns or rows, or adding additional tabs—will cause the file to fail when uploading.
- Use font size 11 or greater when adding data to the Excel spreadsheet.
- After filling out all the fields, click "Save" to save the file in a known location on your computer. Upload the complete spreadsheet using the "Upload Excel File" button.
2. Once the information on record is up to date, click “Continue” at the bottom of each page.
