Law Corporation Application Overview

Before You Begin

There are two application types:

  1. Annual Renewal Application – for LCs currently registered with the State Bar.
  2. New Registration Application – for LCs applying for Certificate of registration with the State Bar.

As of August 1, 2025, Law Corporations (LCs) are required to submit new applications and annual renewals (including Revocations and Special Reports) through the Agency Billing portal.

Paper applications and check payments mailed to the State Bar are no longer accepted. The online application was designed to facilitate the transition from a paper-based process to a new online system. 

  • First Year submitting a new/renewal application through Agency Billing, firms will be required to enter all information. 
  • Subsequent Years: Firms will be asked to confirm and/or update the application to reflect any changes that have occurred since last submitting an application through Agency Billing.
Avoid duplicate applications.

  • Do not submit a new registration application if you previously submitted a paper application and received a certificate of registration along with a registration number from the State Bar.

  • If you are newly registering with the State Bar, do not submit more than one application for your Law Corporation.

The 2026 Renewal Cycle:

  • The 2026 LC renewal cycle began August 3, 2026.
  • All registered LCs, except newly registered LCs, are required to renew their registration with the State Bar of California in the 2026 renewal cycle, regardless of when the 2025 renewal application was submitted or approved.
  • The deadline for submitting a 2026 renewal application without a late penalty will be August 31, 2026.
    • A late penalty fee will be assessed to firms that fail to submit the 2026 renewal application by the August 31, 2026 deadline. To avoid suspension, both the renewal application and payment must be submitted before October 2, 2026.
  • New LCs (registered for the first time with the State Bar of California on or after April 1, 2026) are not required to renew their registration in the 2026 renewal cycle.

⇒ Please Note: If the State Bar notifies an applicant that a new application is incomplete, or otherwise fails to meet application requirements, the applicant will have sixty days to amend the application. If the applicant fails to meet requirements within this time, the application is deemed withdrawn. Abandoned applications are not eligible for refund.
